Pennhurst was constructed and opened in 1908 as a state school for the mentally and physically disabled. Half of Pennhurst's residents were committed by court order and the other half were brought by a parent or other guardian. It was devoted strictly to the care, treatment and education of the disabled. In 1986, Pennhurst was ordered closed. The images in this gallery were taken in 2014 after years of neglect. Fantastic job Ken! My favorites are 'Decayed Corner' and 'Wheelchair in Decaying Room'. It was fun sharing the experience with you and fun looking at your images!
